A Journey of Tradition and Legacy in Traditional Chinese Medicine
Ong Kay Tiang arrived in Singapore from China at the age of five, accompanied by his grandfather. To support a family of 14, he took to the industrious task of riding around the island and going door-to-door to sell ginseng and antlers.
Around 1982, following their relocation from Kampung, the government offered his father the opportunity to select a storefront for their business. Thus, Mr. Ong Kay Tiang, the visionary founder of Guan Ann Chan, embarked on his entrepreneurial journey by establishing his inaugural medical hall in Ang Mo Kio. Over time, this humble beginning blossomed into a network of additional stores.
Today, Mr. Ong’s children adeptly carry forward his legacy while nurturing an enthusiasm for traditional Chinese medicine among future generations. This dedication to the ancient healing tradition is evidenced by the fact that among his descendants, there are now a total of ten Chinese medicine practitioners.
Upholding Tradition and Generosity Across Generations
Guan Ann Chan’s legacy has been entrusted to his son, Physician Ong Chin Tiong, widely known as Ah Tiong, who oversees the store in the west. With over 22 years of clinical experience, he is a registered TCM physician and has dedicated over 40 years of service to the community. Inspired by her father’s passion, Physician Mevis Ong has also joined this journey, working alongside her dad in serving the community.
